Roether walks it off in game one vs Illinois Tech
In game one of a doubleheader with Illinois Institute of Technology, Earlham College freshman Mitchell Roether hit his first career home run over the Maroon Monster for a walk-off Quaker win.
Earlham would go on to split the day with the Scarlet Hawks 1-1, with a 9-8 win, and a 14-1 loss.
Nathan Lancianese ended the day with three doubles and two RBI. Zach Swearingen recorded two hits for three RBI, including a triple in game one. Max Steward tallied his second homer of the season as a pinch hitter in game one.
Dawson Hope earned the win in game one of action with four innings pitched in relief. The freshman allowed just three hits and did not allow a run while recording three strikeouts. Justin Dillhoff pitched three innings after starting game one, and recorded three strikeouts and five hits.
Hayden Scalf started on the bump in game two and threw 5.2 innings with three earned runs and two strikeouts.
After leading 8-3 heading into the final frame, the Quakers gave up a grand slam by the Scarlet Hawks to bring the score to 8-7. Illinois then hit an RBI double later in the inning to bring the Quakers up to bat for the first time in the bottom of the ninth inning this season.
After a strikeout from the leadoff batter, Roether hit a long shot over the Maroon Monster for the walk-off win.
The Quakers will complete the weekend series with Illinois Tech tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
