Women's Basketball: Rio Grande 99, IU East 66
The Indiana University East women's basketball team concluded its 2022-23 season with a 99-66 loss to top-seeded University of Rio Grande in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Tournament on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Even with the loss, Addie Brown's team-high 20 points helped her become only the second player in IU East women's basketball history (NAIA era) to eclipse the 2,000 point total. She ended her career with 2,007 points joining only Tia King (2,566) in the prestigious club.
IU East finished the season with a 13-17 overall record. No. 13 Rio Grande improves to 26-3 overall and will move on to the semifinals of the conference tournament this weekend.
It was all Rio Grande in the first half as the RedStorm outscored IU East 57-29. However, IU East came out in the second half and showed some toughness and did not fold over even during the offensive outburst put on in the first half by the Red Storm. Brown hit a 3-pointer with 3:08 left in the third quarter to get her 2,000th point on the number.
Brown, Taylor Browning, and Megan Harlow, all three seniors, combined for 29 points, nine rebounds, and six assists in their final collegiate game.
Kennedy Griffin joined Brown as the only other double figure scorer with 19 points. Rio Grande had four players in double figures as the RedStorm were led by Lexi Woods with a game-high 27 points.
