WBB scores 23 in fourth quarter to beat Defiance

The Earlham College women's basketball team had four players reach double digit points in a 56-50, Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference win over Defiance College on Wednesday evening.

Jay Bright, Amari Bradford, Willow Runyon, and Bailey Gibson all scored at least 10 points in the contest. Bradford also led in the possession game with nine boards and four steals.

After a slow offensive start for both squads saw the Quakers trailing 20-18 at the halftime break. Earlham had its most efficient frame in the third quarter with a 40% field goal percentage, but could not take the lead after tying the score at 26.

Trailing 42-35 with eight minutes left in regulation, the Quakers scored a 7-0 run and tied the game at 42. Four minutes later, EC charged back from a 50-47 deficit with a 9-0 run in the final two minutes of play. Neely Trenshaw went 3-for-4 on free throws in the final two minutes, and the Quakers forced two turnovers worth three points. Runyon recorded a block on a 3-point attempt with nine seconds remaining.

The Quakers will look to continue the momentum at Manchester University on Saturday at 1 pm. The Spartans came out on top in the first matchup of the season 60-58 in December.
