Red Wolves Fall in OT

Crowley's Ridge scored a late layup to send the game into overtime and held on to defeat the Red Wolves men's basketball team in the second day of "The Show" Classic.

Colt Meyer came off the bench and scored 36 points including 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. IU East shot 41 percent from the floor and grabbed 40 rebounds. Jake Johnson scored 13 points and Sekou Maiga was next in double figures with 11.

The Red Wolves didn't have a lead in the first half but tied the game six times. They overcame an 8-point deficit early on the first. Trailing 18-10, Meyer hit one of his treys to close the deficit to five. Long and Sekou hit free throws to tie the game 18-18 with 7:38 to play in the first half. With nine seconds remaining in the first, Meyer hit another triple to head into halftime tied 31-31. The Red Wolves scored the last nine points of the half from beyond the arc.

Maiga's layup in the second half gave IU East their first lead of the game. But the Pioneers then went on a 19-4 run to take a 51-37 lead with 11:35 remaining in the game. The Red Wolves didn't give up and shaved points off their deficit until Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 26 seconds left. The Pioneers went down the court to tie the game in their next possession.

The Red Wolves would have two chances to win the game in regulation. Tobey Billups' layup with five seconds was unsuccessful but IU East retained possession on a team rebound. Coach Mark Hester called a full timeout with a second left but the Red Wolves were unable to get another shot off as the game went into OT.

The Pioneers scored the first five points in overtime. Johnson added a layup and a jumper to bring the deficit down to one. Crowley's Ridge scored the next three points to take a 76-72 lead with 50 seconds left in OT. Meyer converted his and-1 to bring the deficit back down to one. Meyer had one more chance to give the Red Wolves a lead. But his three point attempt with two seconds left was off the mark.

The Red Wolves will be back home Wednesday against Oakland City.
