Assistant professor receives Quality Matters certificate

Yan Liu, assistant professor of business administration and management, received her first Quality Matters certification for her course BUS-Z302: Managing and Behavior in Organization.

Quality Matters (QM) is a nonprofit organization that provides the gold standard for certifying the quality of online courses and programs. During the QM process, courses are reviewed by a team of three faculty members with current experience in teaching online and a subject matter expert. The review team uses the QM Rubric for Higher Education, which includes 42 specific review standards. In order to meet QM standards, the course must meet all 23 essential standards and earn 85% of the total possible points.

The course, Managing and Behavior in Organization, is an integration of behavior and organizational theories. Liu instructs junior and senior level students on the application of concepts and theories toward improving individual, group, and organizational performance as well as how to build from a behavioral foundation toward an understanding of managerial processes.

Liu received her Doctor of Business Administration and her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Nanchang University in Nanchang, China. Her research interests include positive organizational behavior, leadership, proactive behavior, deviance behavior, human resource practice and research methodology.

Liu joined the IU East School of Business and Economics in fall 2019. In April 2022, Liu received the IU East Center for Faculty Development Faculty Fellowship Award, providing an opportunity designed to offer faculty members an opportunity to cultivate and share their knowledge, techniques, and information on a particular teaching topic.
