Women's Basketball: Huntington 67, Iu East 61

The IU East women's basketball team led after the first quarter against Huntington University, looking for their first win on the season.

The Foresters regained the lead in the first minute of the second quarter and never relinquished as the Red Wolves fell 67-61 on Saturday.

Kennedy Griffin scored a game-high 20 points as she went 8-of-14 from the field. Fellow starter Caitlin McEldowney added 13 points, three rebounds, and three steals. Addie Brown came off the bench to score 10 points.

After the Foresters started the scoring off thirty seconds into the contest, the Red Wolves scored six-straight to take a 6-2 lead. They led by as much as seven after back-to-back jumpers from Griffin gave IU East a 12-5 lead. With a minute left in the opening quarter, Huntington scored six points to trim the IU East lead to just one after the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Foresters scored 15 of the first 17 points to take a 24-16 led halfway through the second. The Red Wolves didn't quit as they trimmed that deficit to four at the halftime break. After a Griffin jumper with 4:11 to go, Brown hit a pair of free throws. With 2:21 remaining in the first half, Taylor Browning and Megan Harlow traded jumpers to get within six points. Davina Smith's free throw and McEldowney's trey with three seconds left saw the Red Wolves trail 30-26 heading to half.

The Red Wolves got within one point with Griffin's three pointer in the third quarter. But Huntington went on another big run, this time to take a 12-point lead at 43-31 lead.

IU East would get the deficit back within single-digits and kept it that way for the remainder of the game. In the fourth, the Red Wolves were put on the charity stripe 12 times and made 11 of those attempts. They were able to pull within four points eight times but weren't able to get any closer.

The Red Wolves will travel to take on Ball State in an exhibition game on Monday before kicking the conference season off against IU Kokomo on the road on Thursday.
