WBB drops season opener
The Earlham College women's basketball team began its 2022-23 season with a 56-38 loss to Wittenberg University in Druley Performance Gym on Tuesday evening.
Jay Bright and Alexis Gibson led the offense with 10 points each. Bright was also active on the boards, tying Neely Trenshaw for the team lead in rebounds at seven.
Amari Bradford recorded nine points on the evening and collected four boards.
The Quakers struggled to put points up early and were held off the scoreboard until the final minute of the quarter. Earlham scored just one field goal from 18 shots in the frame.
The struggles continued in the second frame with only two field goals out of 19. The Quakers scored just 13 points in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Trailing 31-13 at the break, the Quakers posted a 25% field goal percentage in the second half, and saw an improvement in free throw shooting as well.
In the final minutes, head coach Shanna Thompson took the opportunity to get playing time for newcomers integrating to the squad. 12 of the 14 players on the EC roster logged at least two minutes of action on the court.
The Quakers will be back in action on Saturday at Muskingum University. Tip-off is slated for 3 pm in New Concord, Ohio.
