Women's Soccer: Iu East 5, Brescia 0

The Indiana University East women's soccer team advanced to the semifinal round of the River States Conference Championships with a 5-0 victory over Brescia University on Saturday, Nov. 5.

"It's win or go home time and our kids played through heavy winds to get a good victory for us," IU East coach Shane Meridith said. "It was nice to see the scoring load spread around. I'm proud of our team and excited to go on to the semifinals."

The No. 3 seed in the tournament, IU East is 7-4-8 as the Red Wolves head to No. 2 IU Kokomo (12-2-3) on Wednesday, Nov. 9. The contest at Kokomo Municipal Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. Brescia ends the season at 7-9-1.

Going against strong winds in the first half, the Red Wolves were able to score what turned out to be the game-winning goal as Tori Martino found the back of the net at 31:15 with an assist from McKenna Kleinrichert.

In the second half, the Red Wolves used the wind as the scored four times to put the match away.

Morgan Grudich scored at 48:00 as Martino assisted to make it 2-0. As a result of her assist, Martino tied the IU East season record with seven. She now has 14 in her career, which puts her at the top of the all-time list for the Red Wolves with former Dejhanna O'Bryant (2017-21).

Ava Wittrock followed with an unassisted goal at 58:47. Emma Haskell picked up the next score with a lot of action in front of the goal with Kaiah Haberkorn involved in the play at 63:26. Vanessa Temple found Abbie Watson for the final tally for the Red Wolves at 74:26.

Goalkeeper Olivia Hence had one save in the second half for IU East as she stopped a one-on-one move from Brescia's Jada Saunders with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest.
