Men's Soccer; IU East 2, St. Mary-of-the-Woods 1
A late goal helped the Indiana University East men's soccer team earn a victory on Senior Day was the Red Wolves defeated St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 2-1 on Saturday, Oct. 22.
IU East is now 9-5-3 overall and 4-2-2 in the River States Conference. The Red Wolves are currently tied for fourth place with Point Park University (6-8-3, 4-2-2). St. Mary-of-the-Woods is 3-5-0, 3-4-0.
With the score tied at 1-1 at Eaton High School, Gavin Miller found Callum Coleman for the winning score at 86:54 in the second half.
"Great match today by the guys," IU East coach Steve Moore said. "Had some unfortunate luck early to go down 1-0, but the guys rallied together and showed their grit in battling back to the very end to get the game-winner. I'm very proud of our effort today."
The Pomeroys got on the scoreboard at the 7:34 mark when Abraham Abdoul Kadri was credited with a goal after drilling a shot attempt was deflected by an IU East player.
Jahred Ashmeade beat the Pomeroy goalkeeper at 20:31 to tie the contest with an assist from Bawi Ting.
After the contest, Miller and fellow seniors Manny Cabrera, Nolan Everts, Dailen Troutman and Santy Elavarasu were recognized for their careers at IU East.
"Completely honored to be able to recognize our seniors today," Moore said. "Manny, Santy, Nolan, Gavin and Dailen have poured an incredible amount into our program over the years. I'm appreciative of what they've given us and we're looking forward to finishing out the year with them and excited to watch their respective futures play out."
The Red Wolves travel to West Virginia for the regular season finale on Saturday, Oct. 29. IU East plays WVU Tech at 3 p.m.
