Women's Basketball: Red Wolves Add Four Players

Indiana University East women's basketball coach Tiffani Selhorst has announced that the Red Wolves have four transfers joining the team for the 2022-23 season.

"We are so excited to add all of these girls to our family for the 2022-2023 season," Red Wolves assistant coach Alexa Welborn said. "Each girl brings their own personalities and skill set to the court and we are excited to build on our great season last year. We look forward to seeing all of them progress and be involved in the IU East and Richmond community."

Christina Himelick (McKendree University) and Trisa Porter (Edison State Community College) are juniors on the roster, while Kenzie Hudgen (Cal State Northridge) and Sally Mortenson (Grace College) will be sophomores.

Porter played in 24 games for Edison State last year as the Chargers reached the NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament with a 29-2 mark. Trisa had a season-high seven points against Clark State College. She was an all-conference performer at Tri-Village High School in Ohio.

Mortenson was in a dozen games a year ago for Grace as the Lancers played in the National Christian College Athletic Association National Championships with a 20-16 record. She scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds a game during her senior year at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis, Ind.

Teammates at Mishawaka Marian High School in northern Indiana, Himelick and Hudgen were part of three straight sectional championships.

Himelick averaged double-double as a senior at Marian with 13.1 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. Hudgen played in 75 games in three seasons with 915 points and averaged 12.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.1 steals per contest during her senior season.

The group is part of the 2022-23 IU East recruiting class.

IU East is an NAIA program. IU East finished last season at 25-8 as the Red Wolves qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the fourth time in school history and the first time since 2017-18.
