One woman, a five-foot pile of computer instructions, and a historical moon landing.

One woman, a five-foot pile of computer instructions, and a historical moon landing.

53 years ago today, Apollo 11 Astronauts reached the moon and our very own Margaret Hamilton ’58 was one of the computer scientists and software engineers who made it happen.

It is her work that helped enable the computers to figure out landing functions, and history wouldn’t have been made possible without her.

Margaret Hamilton is a success story not only for Earlham but for the world of science, and our incoming class could be the next.

Starting in fall 2023, Earlham will become one of only a handful of national liberal arts colleges to make a four-year engineering degree available to students.

Students will explore engineering as a catalyst for good and be a part of the Earlham engineers who will be prepared to address the most pressing challenges of our time with compassion and creativity.
