MEN'S TENNIS SIGNEE: CLAY CONNER FROM SHENANDOAH HIGH SCHOOL

Clay Conner from Shenandoah (Ind.) High School has signed a letter of intent to play men's tennis at Indiana University East starting with the 2022-23 season.

Red Wolves Director of Athletics Joe Griffin made the announcement on June 20.

"I chose IU East because of the small community feel of the campus and staff, as well as the opportunity to play tennis," Clay said. "The campus and school fit my personality and learning style."

A two-time most valuable player for the Raiders, Conner posted marks of 45-19 in singles and 16-6 in doubles during his career. He earned All-Mid-Eastern Conference three years and All-Henry County two times, while being a First Team for the Anderson Herald Bulletin in 2022 and First Team for the New Castle Courier Times in 2021-22.

One of Conner's favorite memories of playing high school tennis was establishing Shenandoah's school record in 2021 with 27 "Love" games, where he blanked his opponent during the contest.

The son of Deeann and Rusty Conner, Clay plans on entering the Exploratory Program at IU East before deciding on a major.

"I would like to thank Coach John Rhodes for coaching me since I was seven years old," Conner wrote. "I would also like to thank my parents for taking me to all of my workouts and practices over the years along with the Muncie YMCA for all the coaches and workers. Also the Shenandoah coaching staff for all the support over the years and last but not least all of his teammates and managers."

Conner is another member of the 2022 IU East recruiting class to be announced this spring.

IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves finished second in the River States Conference Tournament the past two seasons.
