MEN'S TRACK: NAIA National Championships Recap

5

Indiana University East's Chance Klipstine posted the third fastest time of his career at the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on May 25.

The River States Conference champion in the 800 meters, Klipstine finished sixth in the first of three heats with a time of 1:54.44 at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.

"It was a great season for Chance," IU East coach JW Maierle said. "He was able to finish higher than his seed mark and that is a fantastic accomplishment."

The first 800 runner from IU East to reach the national meet, Klipstine improved his overall position as he was 17th of 24 competitors. His IU East record time of 1:52.53 set a few weeks ago was 22nd on the performance list.

"I would have liked to have been a couple seconds faster today," Klipstine said. "Even though I didn't place as high as I would have liked, I'm trying not to let myself be disappointed."

"Right now, I just want to celebrate the season I had and the opportunity to travel to Alabama for such a big event," Klipstine added. "Going forward, I will use this experience to push myself and get better next season."

During the outdoor season, Klipstine broke the school record in the 800 meters several times including in his last three races prior to the national event.

The finals of the 800 will be on Friday. Senzo Sokhela of Westmont College in California had the fastest time in the trials at 1:50.94.
