The third time really was a charm for Chance Klipstine as he established a new Indiana University East Track and Field record for the 800-meter run for the third week in a row.

However this time, the record wasn't the biggest moment of the race in the Carius/Gregory Track & Field Meet at North Central College on Friday, May 13. With a time of 1:52.53, Klipstine reached the NAIA "B" national qualifying standard of 1:53.80.

"I was super excited to qualify for nationals," Klipstine said. "As we got further into the season, I knew I had a shot to qualify."

"The last couple weeks were stressful because I knew it would be difficult," Klipstine added. "When I crossed the finish line tonight I just felt very relieved knowing my training had paid off."

The NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships are May 25-27 in Mobile, Ala.

"We're super excited for Chance with everything he has accomplished this year," IU East coach JW Maierle said. "This is something he has been working towards for a few years. It was pretty nice to see all of the hard work pay off."

"We're excited for that opportunity," Maierle continued. "We've got a little more of work to do in the coming weeks. We'll be ready to go."

Klipstine won the 800 meters in 1:55.42 at the River States Conference Championships on April 30. Last week, Klipstine lowered his school record to 1:54.28 in the Billy Hayes Invitational at Indiana University on May 6.

"I'm incredibly thankful for my coaches helping me get to this point and my teammates for always being amazing supporters and pushing me to be my best," Klipstine said.
