Morrisson-Reeves Library recently issued the following announcement.
It’s tax time! Why not receive free help with filing your taxes? Free tax preparation assistance provided by certified AARP Tax-Aide volunteers is available at Morrisson-Reeves Library starting in February. This free service is offered at the library as well as at the Richmond Senior Center. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be offered by appointment only. No drop-ins will be accepted.
Call 765-203-1788 to make your appointment. Once your appointment is made, instructions will be given for your intake interview and tax document drop-off details.
The free tax service includes form preparation with electronic filing for both Indiana State and Federal Tax forms. A dozen certified volunteers will be on hand to assist patrons. Although there are no income restrictions for this service, individuals with tax returns that are deemed too complex will be referred to a tax professional.
TAX PREPARATION CHECKLIST
· Information for each member listed on the tax form
· Photo ID
· Social Security Card(s)
· Date of birth
· Child care records, including the provider’s name, ID number, and address (if claiming a deduction for Child and Dependent Care Expenses) Income & tax information for the tax year:
· W-2 forms from all employers
· 1099 forms other tax statements received for the tax year
· Form 1095-A for health insurance
· Amount(s) and date(s) of each payment of estimated taxes during the tax year
· Information about any self-employment income
· Receipts from rental, real estate, royalties, partnerships, and trusts
· Social Security benefits
· Receipts for deductions including tax receipts
· Rent receipts, name and address of landlord if claiming renter’s deduction on Indiana State return · Voided check or savings account routing number for direct deposit of refund
