Track & Field: RSC Championships Preview

Indiana University East has six athletes seeded in the top three of their respective events as the Red Wolves head to the 2022 River States Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Rio Grande on April 29-30.

Chance Klipstine, Angelo Borrego, Tristan Thomas and Santy Elavarasu are No. 1 seeds for the men's squad, while the women have Savannah Hart and Danielle Ruhl are in the No. 2 spot.

The field events get underway in the Stockmeister Track & Field complex on Friday at 1 p.m. Track events start at is the 5,000 meters at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the meet resumes with the field events at 9:30 p.m. The running events begin at 10:30 a.m.

Rio Grande won the men's title last season as the Point Point University women took home the women's championship trophy.

Admission is $5 per day and tickets are available online at RioRedStorm.com/Tickets.

The meet features 12 schools from the conference.

YOU OUGHT TO KNOW

* The top three finishers in each event earn all-conference recognition, while the top eight score.

* Klipstine posted a new RSC indoor record with a 1:58.05 earlier this year in the 800 meters. He is the top seed in the outdoor version of the race with a time of 1:56.72.

* In the triple jump, Borrego has the top distance in the field with a leap of 13.51 meters.

* Thomas and Elavarasu lead the way in the long jump with a distance of 6.63 meters.

* Hart is defending champion and the second seed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with an IU East record time of 12:07.9.

* Ruhl's toss of 39.96 meters has her second in the hammer throw.

* India Benton is the other defending champ for the Red Wolves from a year ago as she won the 400 meters and finished second in the 200.

* Hart and Matthew Fox were selected as the "Alpha Wolf of the Meet" after last week's Little State Championships at Indiana Wesleyan University.
